Steve DallasOpus

A (non-Washington) post by Maynard

Cartoonist Berkeley Breathed has been drawing satirical comics since 1978. Over the years I’ve enjoyed his comic strips and his books. He’s got a good eye for absurdity wherever he finds it. His satire is sharp but not mean.

These days you’ll find Mr. Breathed’s weekly comic, “Opus”, here. (“Opus” is the name of the penguin, pictured above.)

FoxNews is reporting that the Washington Post and other newspapers have yanked the latest “Opus” out of fear of offending Muslims. Take a look for yourself and see how offensive this strip is. To get a greater context of the situation, look at the previous week’s strip, which takes a potshot at Jerry Falwell. Naturally, there was no reason to censor the earlier strip.

The gentleman you see above and in the strip is sexist ex-frat boy Steve Dallas, another Breathed regular character. The lady is moonbat Lola Granola.

Yet another example of the double-standard and the cowardice of our elite media.

Exactly what is offensive in the cartoon? The implied withholding of sex? I thought Muslim’s were proud of their virtue. In fact, in a recent British TV documentary, “The Muslim Jesus”, a Muslim woman states proudly if Mary were to return to earth she would dress like a Muslim woman. “She’d be setting an example the way we’re trying to set an example.”

The documentary can be seen in five parts on YouTube. Happy, smiling, tolerant Muslims were interviewed throughout the film. The producer said it was an attempt to shift the focus away from extremism to the spiritual side of Islam, in particular the Muslim view of Jesus. He was not the Son of God, just a prophet and a precursor of Mohammed. There was no crucifixion or resurrection. That was an illusion. When Jesus returns he, like Mary, will be a Muslim. Jesus will call for the destruction of crosses and prayers should be offered to Allah only.

No word on when the Christian challenge to Muslim orthodoxy will be aired by ITV.

I would have seen nothing wrong with the Jerry Falwell cartoon if the muslim one had aired too. Both could be taken as somewhat offensive (though not severly) however as long as both were aired, the cartoon would not have been taking sides and only trying to get a laugh anywhere it could. Ufortunatley, thanks to the post, this has, like Maynard stated show off yet another ridiculous double standard
