Big Government vs. Big Donut

You can consider the Nanny State out of control when they decide to take away donuts from a senior center because they’re bad for the residents. The very same seniors, who in their 60s, 70s and 80s, one way or another fought and won World War II, and defended this nation during the Korean and Vietnam wars. They survived the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the drug-haze of the 60s, the disasters of Nixon and Carter in the 70s, Carter’s recession, malaise and Iranian hostage taking. The didn’t kill themselves, die of alcoholism or drug abuse, die in a car wreck, or get killed by some freak. They survived the 20th century.

And what do we do to honor and celebrate our seniors? We treat them like babies and take away their donuts. Yet we’re so obsessed with making sure potheads can get their dope we open up “medical marijhuana” stores. Un-Effing-Believeable.

Seniors Protest Doughnut Ban

MAHOPAC, N.Y (AP) — It was just another morning at the senior center: Women were sewing, men were playing pool — and seven demonstrators, average age 76, were picketing outside, demanding doughnuts.

They wore sandwich boards proclaiming, “Give Us Our Just Desserts” and “They’re Carbs, Not Contraband.”

At issue is a decision to refuse free doughnuts, pies and bread that were being donated to senior centers around Putnam County, north of New York City. Officials were concerned that the county was setting a bad nutritional precedent by providing mounds of doughnuts and other sweets to seniors. The picketers said they were objecting not to a lack of sweets but that they weren’t consulted about the ban.

“Lack of respect is what it’s all about,” said Joe Hajkowski, 75, a former labor union official who organized the demonstration. He said officials had implied that seniors were gorging themselves on jelly doughnuts and were too senile to make the choice for themselves.

“I’m 86, not 8,” added C. Michael Sibilia…

Caregivers there and elsewhere say the doughnut debate illustrates the difficulty of balancing nutrition and choice when providing meals to the elderly.

“Senior citizens can walk down to the store and buy doughnuts. Nobody’s stopping them,” said Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington.

That’s respect for you.

The only place in this nation where it is acceptable for one adult to “balance” the nutrition and choice of another adult is in PRISON.

And BTW, this is some seriously hard-hitting journalism, i.e., actually labeling this as something that is a (doughnut) “debate.” How is it possible for this to be a situation that needs to be “debated” before resolution is reached?! Well, I guess if the caregivers think it needs further study, we just have to defer to their superior expertise in this area.

One more thing; where exactly is “elsewhere”? Apparently there are some highly-credentialed “caregivers” there that are behind this 100%. I guess that’s good enough for me.

The seniors have not only survived – and helped this nation survive – through the most pivotal moments of the last century, they must have made great decisions about their health along the way to be in their 60’s, 70s, & 80s.

The Food Nazis need to be stopped once and for all. The attitude of those involved in taking donuts away from the seniors is insulting and disgusting – talk about the county setting ‘examples’.

Bet these ‘officials’ are fat and hoard the donuts on their way to their ‘official business’.

I saw the senior gentleman interviewed on Neil Cavuto’s show about the donut issue. He said, (paraphrasing), “that they wouldn’t ask illegal immigrants to give up their donuts….” I agree and laughed so hard. I believe also that we would not ask Donald Trump or Bill Gates to stop eating their donuts (or fat choice equivalent). I suppose the Donut Police will be jobs Americans won’t want to do? Spanish will be required for these positions?

What are they afraid of.. that doughnuts are going to shorten their life-span?
What ever happened to respecting our elders? For goodness sakes, these people probably have more sense in their pinkies than the county officials. As for those who are senile, these people should not dictate their diets, it should be discussed with their power of attorneys.

If every measure, no matter how small, is justified in pursuit of better health and lower healthcare costs, we should deport illegals arrested for drunk driving.

Consider this case in Los Gatos, CA. It’s far from unique. An illegal was arrested for drunk driving and then released, not deported. The government says there isn’t enough money to pursue deportation for commission of minor crimes and misdemeanors. Six months later, the same illegal, again driving drunk, struck a woman crushing her legs nearly killing her.

What is the cost for deportation of that illegal six months earlier compared to the healthcare costs this woman faces?

A message to Hillary and the food police, in the furtherance of healtcare reform, deport illegals immediately upon arrest for drunk driving. You’ll save more money and more lives that way than by confiscating granny’s donuts.

I wish this had been the place I had had my Mother stay at. I’d have refused to pay and packed our bags! The establishment seems to have forgotten who pays the bills…

PS did I mention that TAMMY ROCKS as always!

  7. OK whats the difference between a donut and the crap they call nutritious? There is no safe food that is bought in a store anymore the chemicals alone that are used to grow or produce all the food we eat is enough to kill anyone so i say let them enjoy there donuts how many more do you think and 80 year old person is goin to eat anyway? Let them enjoy what ever is left for them with what time is left. Respect your elders is what every child is taught or at least I was and so are my children!
