Well, “attacks” is a bit strong. The debate, like all the others, were bunch of men auditioning for one job or another in their perceived Clinton administration. But it was Clinton’s response to the jabs that draws my interest. It was coy and sexualized (frankly, two things that don’t enter my mind when it comes to Hillary Clinton), and an indication of what she thinks will give her an edge in a campaign against men.

Clinton Gets No Love in Democrats Debate

In the City of Brotherly Love, there wasn’t much for a sister.

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s rivals ganged up on her during a two-hour Democratic presidential debate Tuesday night, putting the front-runner on defense on issues ranging from Iraq and Iran to Social Security and whether she would be electable in the general election.

Gone was the Clinton who laughed off their answers and joked about how she’s lucky to be getting so much attention from all these men at her age.

Terrific. After decades or Establishment Feminism (and proof of its leftist failure), we have Laura Bush in the Middle East legitimizing the murderous oppression of women there as “traditional” and “cultural,” and we get Hillary Clinton here at home acting like she’s on a first date during a presidential debate. Disgusting, both of them.

This follows remarks about Clinton from Mitt Romney which he preceded by noting that he was sure she was a “lovely person.” First of all, would he ever consider prefacing remarks about a male opponent with the word “lovely”? I don’t think so. Now if we had Larry CRaig in this race, I might be answering differently. Bottom line (so to speak) we all know Hillary Clinton and we all know she’s not a ‘lovely’ or a nice person. Yet, it is this sort of chivalry that Clinton hopes will keep her male rivals from engaging in well deserved and direct attacks against her.

Every serious candidate, in facing Clinton, must not view her as woman–they must view her as Medusa and proceed accordingly. Any candidate, like Romney, who falls into the gentility trap, will indeed be at a serious disadvantage. Clinton, too, in her effort to subtly sexualize attacks on herself is a ridiculous a cynical attempt to play the Gender Card, if you will. But it is a strategy which for her will also backfire–after all, if she can’t withstand as a person rhetorical debate and attack, how could she survive attacks against herself and this nation by international tyrannical beasts who murder women in their nations as casually as most people say Hello?

We need a Leader in the White House, not a coy Wife.

Wasn’t it also during the “lovely woman” remarks that Romney mentioned something about the the White House not being the place for a president to intern? Interesting turn of phrase on Romney’s part, no?

I get the feeling this particular Persidential race is going to be one of the more repulsive ones to watch, for a variety of reasons.

Typical leftist, they’ll dish it all day long but don’t you dare make me take it!! I have to say Hillary is mild compared to Michael Moore.

  4. Today, her campaign website has a “The Politics of Piling On” press release. And you’ll never guess: She was ‘victimized’ in last night’s debate. More sexualization?
Deflection of the truth is more like it.

A Post whose title begins with “Hillary Sexualizes…” Is this how you scare your readers on Halloween?

Hillary will of course try to use her sex to her advantage, just as every politician grabs for every weapon in his arsenal. Republicans are concerned about giving traction to that “mean-spirited” label the Dems are always trying to pin on them, and when they turn up the rhetoric, Hillary might turn her feminine side and leave them looking like wife-beaters. Yes, it’s intellectually absurd, but it’s a powerful emotional image; the sort of stuff that can sway an election. And no, the Reps cannot afford to fail to attack Hillary. But I understand their dilemma.

Ha ha, I’m waiting for someone to trot out the old chestnut, “Hillary’s been in an ugly mood ever since someone dropped a house on her sister.”

Excellent post, Tammy. Her opponents do have to attack her, but they can’t take it too far. If they do, females will rally to her side like they did when Rick Lazio challenged her to sign something in that debate. It’s a delicate balance & I’m not sure where the middle ground is.

It seems to me that Rudy would not be cowed by Hillary. He’s dealt with 3 wives, for goodness sakes. This woman won’t fare much better against him simply because she’s a woman.

Fiona: Little Rick Lazio couldn’t hurt a fly, much less Hillary. I never knew why that “personal space invasion” charge stuck.

I send this quote from Proust not just in honor of the ‘lovely woman’. As we all know, there are others.

“The wicked ones, who are constantly being born amongst us, are often distinguished by appearing as angels of light and wit and intelligence, charming and fascinating beyond usual mortal endowments, apparently loving and always exciting love even among those who are of a usually cynical nature. In truth, they appear most lovable and amiable, for it is their diabolical genius to be all things to all men, grave among the grave, gay among the gay, sympathetic in the company of those of sensibility, never openly hostile or belligerent; flexible of temperament, of an open countenance and invariably possessed of great magnetism. –More of these wicked ones are born in each generation than we know of, but those who are unfortunately of their blood know that they entertain a demon, and not unawares. May God preserve you and me from encountering one such in marriage or among our children!”
