Trick or Treat!

Frances Townsend and Karen Hughes, both having since resigned their positions, defaming women by donning the hijab at a Washington event. The pandering of these powerful governmental women to the Stone Age misogyny of Islamists was insulting and nauseating. Disgusting, both of them and reflective of the cowardice of the entire Bush administration.

Finally, someone who really should resign from her job in the Bush admin, has. Adios Kathleen. Don’t let that burqa hit you on the way out.

Bush Homeland Security Adviser Resigns

Fran Townsend, the leading White House-based terrorism adviser who gave public updates on the extent of the threat to U.S. security, is stepping down after 4 1/2 years.

President Bush said in a statement Monday morning that Townsend, 45, “has ably guided the Homeland Security Council. She has played an integral role in the formation of the key strategies and policies my administration has used to combat terror and protect Americans.”

Her departure continues an exodus of key Bush aides and confidants, with his two-term presidency in the final 15 months. Top aide Karl Rove, along with press secretary Tony Snow, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and senior presidential adviser Dan Bartlett, have already left.

It’s insulting the lengths Americans will go to prove how “enlightened” and “sensitive” we are. We usually come off looking ridiculous and embarassing. Of all the cultures of the world, Islam and Enlightened has to be the mother of all oxymorons. I wonder if Ms Hughes would put on a bikini or scanty halter top when visiting a “Hooters” restauraunt for some chicken wings? Why should we respect the cultural sensitivities of a religion that has proven countless times to not respect ours?

What these women did when donning The Headwrap of Oppression is reveal their submission – not sensitivity. I use to admire Karen Hughes a great deal – she was seen as a source of strength until she allowed herself to be used for wearing the message, ‘Hey, we give in even when we’re not visiting your brutal and backward country!’

It’s a shame these high-powered women were not sensitive to the suffering of the women in countries where the hijab and burqa are not an option. It’s also a shame these women the world has looked up to did not use their authority and strength to burn the damn things at this particular event!

You don’t have to half adopt someone’s customs to be respectful of them. Obviously if you were about to walk into some shrine, your escourt would ask that you do this or that, but this kind of pandering looks fake, and just plain hokey.

Tammy I don’t know about you but whenever I used to hear Karen Hughes talk in her Texas drawl about “understandin’ and reachin’ out to Islaaaaam” I used to cringe. She and Frances Townsend were two of the worst cronies that Bush foisted on us. Come to think of it who was the worst of the Bush Administration’s infamous “loyalty ” to incompetents:
    1. George Tenet (a Clinton holdover)
    2. Norm Minetta (ditto Clinton)
    3. Colin Powell (disloyal)
    4. Condi Rice (clueless)
    5. Michael Brown (“heckuva job Brownie”)
    6. Alberto Gonzales
    7. Karen Hughes
    8. Frances Townsend
    9. Michael Chertoff (Homeland Security)
    10. Harriet Miers
    11. Mel Martinez (handpicked chairman of the R.N.C.)
    12. Anthony Zinni – (pro PLO special mediator to the Palestinain Authority)
    13. Richard Armitage – (Backstabbing Powell flunky)

Once, after Townsend recited a list of alleged successes in the war on terror, a reporter asked her “we haven’t caught bin Laden. Isn’t that a failure?” She spun “no, it’s a success that hasn’t happened yet.” Well, that’s doubleplus good.

  6. Ripper says:

Where did Karen Hughes and Frances Townshend get those schmatas they are wearing on their heads? Hughes’ is particularly bad – like a towel she stole from a cheap hotel.

In the past year a rape victim was hung by the neck until dead by Islamic court order in Iran and a rape victim in the more “liberal” Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in jail. And US women and the State Department kowtow to these barbarians instead of spitting in their faces. Why? To show US solidarity with the Saudi police goons who chased schoolgirls back into their burning school because they didn’t have veils on? This 7th Century abomination of viciousness, hate, and violence desperately needs a Reformation or else it needs to be wiped from the face of the earth.
