Obama Team Feels Richardson Wasn’t Forthcoming About Investigation Before Being Offered Commerce

Sources tell ABC News that officials on the Obama Transition Team feel that before he was formally offered the job of commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was not forthcoming with them about the federal investigation that is looking into whether the governor steered a state contract towards a major financial contributor…The Richardson camp says the governor was forthcoming, with sources close to the governor noting that there had been reports about the controversy in local media such as the Albuquerque Journal as far back as August 2008. The governor discussed the investigation with the Obama team, they say, and believes that he and his administration have done nothing wrong.

I wonder when someone will notice Obama was never fully vetted either.

  1. Paul From Hamburg says:

Notice this quote from Richardson in the AP story:

“Given the gravity of the economic situation the nation is facing, I could not in good conscience ask the president-elect and his administration to delay for one day the important work that needs to be done.”

Compare that to this quote from the same story:

“Obama transition officials said Richardson’s withdrawal would not affect the stimulus plan because the Commerce Department was not heavily involved.”

When asked whether he regretted losing Richardson, Obama replied “Who? Oh yeah. Deep regret. I am sure he would have been a great Secretary of State. What? Commerce? Commerce secretary? Oh well, big deal. Wait a minute, who got State? WHAT???”

This has been a very successful strategy of Obama: express horror and outrage at, and noisily put up frantic barriers against, all those evils of which you yourself are guilty. This is a very effective smokescreen, as who would think someone would have enough chutzpah to actually act this way when even the most cursory examination of one’s self would be devastating to one’s reputation?

Anyone who comes in at a later point would naturally assume that Obama has passed all tests in all these respects.

“This is not the [Jeremiah Wright/Bill Ayers/Rod Blagojevitch/Bill Richardson] I knew.”

The Richardson camp says he has been very “forthcoming” and that the controversy has been “all over” the “local” media as “far back” as August.

Right. The controvery’s been out for five months in a newspaper no one’s heard of (outside of Albuquerque).

Obama not fully vetted, say you, Tammy? The Messiah (may he live forever) needs no vetting, for he is The One.

Isn’t it interesting how neutralizes loyalties? Here in Richardson’s case, he can say he offered it. Hillary’s appointment neutralized her from doing anything political for a while. (That pre-empted Kerry’s longing to be “Foreign Minister”.)
And how can a Kerry complain about being co-opted by a woman (Dame Boston would be outraged.)?
And…nobody whose loyalty he renegs on can complain about Baraq Abraham Martin Luther Lincoln King Obama.
