Fascinatingly enough, some of us follow MLK’s admonition and choose to not see complexion, and instead focus on the content of someone’s character. These days, it seems the only people who still associate monkeys with Americans who happen to be black is the Black Gestapo. So, the NY Daily News apologized for their Travis/Crap Sandwich cartoon, but that’s still not enough for the Ultra-Paranoid MalNar Thought Police.

NAACP wants NY Post editor and cartoonist fired

Sharpton Won’t Accept Post’s Apology

In fact, it is especially ridiculous to think the NYDN cartoonist, or anyone who wasn’t a Paranoid MalNar, was thinking about B. Hussein Obama at all. Over at Treacher, we have the Top 10 Reasons Why President Barack Obama Is Nothing Like Travis the Chimp

10. Travis understood TurboTax
9. Obama somewhat less likely to attack Biden
8. Travis never lied
7. Obama’s smile not quite as genuine
6. Travis could get through entire day without teleprompter
5. Obama takes more long-term approach to destroying people’s lives
4. Might actually be possible to get copies of Travis’s medical records
3. Obama much better at taking orders from trainer, David Axelrod
2. Travis really didn’t befriend William Ayers
1. Obama only talks your ear off.

An addendum by Maynard

There was endless political humor in which George Bush was compared to a chimpanzee. Look at what you get when you Google on keywords “Bush” and “chimp”. In fact, there’s an entire website, www.BushOrChimp.com, dedicated to the premise.

The Bush/chimp jokes were typical political ad hominem attacks, and we shrugged them off. If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Sometimes the attacks were less benign. The movie “Death of a President”, initially shown in art-house theaters and now on DVD (here’s the Amazon listing), was a documentary-style film in which George Bush is murdered as a consequence of the Iraq war. The death scene you see here appears on the cover of the DVD and was also shown on the theatrical posters. I consider this despicable, and I no longer attend the local theater that showed the film and displayed the poster. But I don’t recall any organized protest or demand for apologies in the aftermath of this release.

Death of a President

The complaints about the Travis cartoon are absurd on so many levels that it’s ridiculous even to have this discussion. First, the double standard is obvious: George Bush was fair game in any way at all, but Barack Obama requires sensitivity. And of course there’s Al Sharpton’s reprehensible record…the Tawana Brawley incident, or his anti-Semitic rhetoric (“diamond merchants”, etc.) at the flashpoints of the Crown Heights riot or the Freddie’s Fashion Mart shootings, both of which involved mobs and horrific murders. And finally, as Tammy points out, this is typical of the Left’s malignant narcissism: The Travis comic has nothing to do with Obama’s likeness, and everything to do with the monkey-brained thinking that is making law in Washington.

Is the Rev. Al Sharpton not a man of God, a follower of Christ ? Jesus says to forgive not 70, but 70×7 times. Is he too proud of a man to forgive as Jesus tells us to ? What a parasite.

I thought that the guy was just making fun of Barkey’s ears.
    Silly me.

  3. echo says:

It’s obviously a cartoon about Obama’s own pet killer chimp, Rahm Emanuel.

I am so glad you brought that up Maynard. But you will be villified for saying it. Truth is, black Americans in this country are hanging on every possible statement and event that they can turn into yet another version of Victimhood.

And they try to be coy about it too. I listened to Tavis Smiley ( I don’t know why ) speak with a female black leader some time ago, patronizing her call for reparations. And the Bush-Chimp thing was more reprehensible, since they clearly were comparing his looks to a chimpanzee. Al Sharpton?!!! I am still amazed that this guy would be able to command a national audience, much less run for the presidency, after being complicit in wiping feces on the leg of a 14 year old and then blaming it on whites. Or Jesse Jackson, after admitting to spitting in the food of white patrons while working his way through college. Can you imagine if they found that John McCain did that to black patrons during the election?
I am no racist, but I am sick of the black argument. Reparations? How many centuries and generations removed from shackles do we need to get? Entitlements, allocations, handouts, come on… it never ends. They did a Michigan study a little while back, and determined that the majority of black students that had gained monetarily and otherwise from allocation and race–specific student aid were actually lousy students from well-to-do families. In NY our new black governor just announced a budget which cuts from the State Education, State University, Health, Environment, Transportation, Mental Health, Prison, and Soil and Water programs. Only one increase… you guessed it, WELFARE, by 30%.

And, does anyone remember “Snipers Wanted” that was superimposed over the image of President Bush during “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn” on CBS?

Yet, we were told to get a sense of humor.

My second thought at seeing the cartoon? (the first of course was the 200 lb chimp in the news) I thought of an old lampoon of evolution:
‘Give a thousand monkeys a thousand typewriters and a few million years, and they’ll eventually produce Shakespeare’
The tie in to me was that the porkulus package made as much sense as if those 1000 monkeys had typed it. e.g., none.

“Obama only talks your ear off” I laughed out loud at that one!

It was reported that Travis was learned in basics but not much else. In this regard I suspect their educations to be quite similar…

  8. Ripper says:

Yes Bush was referred to as “Chimp”, “Chimpy”, “Chimpy McHitler”, “Cheney and Chimp” “Bushchimphiter” and various lovely versions of that. By the way I am not ashamed that I want Obama to fail – he does want to change this country over to Socialism and that deserves to fail.

We have dual standards in this country and heaven forbid if you don’t agree with the liberal media positions. The likes of Al or Jessie will never miss an opportunity to get noticed on TV. As smart as these two race hustlers are they don’t get it. The Emperor has no clothes. The way I see it, they are in some barnyard in Iowa standing in what they are selling.
