Unfortunately for Euna Lee and Lisa Ling, they are simply pawns in a game played out of Pyongyang. They will be used to minimize and deflect concern over their growing nuclear threat, an issue that is, unfortunately, already too far gone.

There is nothing that can be done now to stop Kim Jong Il except a pre-emptive strike on each facility involved with their nuclear programs, from their enrichment facilities and research housing, to their deployment vehicles. And it must occur soon, and at the same time pre-emptive strikes at Iran’s nuclear facilities are accomplished. We are not dealing with rational men, but individuals who just may be willing to pull the trigger. In fact, one believes the holocaust was a hoax, and has sworn to destroy Israel.

With regard to Kim Jong Il, Japan, Hawaii, South Korea, even California is within reach. And these are weapons vastly more destructive than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One such warhead detonating in Los Angeles would render a huge area of Southern California uninhabitable for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and kill millions. This is a reality, not a worry. I am so tired of people acting as though this is some political ploy on his part. A political ploy for what?

Tammy, there is something fishy about this. Like Roxana Saberi, the Obama press has been strangely quiet about this. And like Roxana Saberi, I suspect that Laura Ling and Euna Lee will be put through a show trial, convicted of “spying” and then suddenly released. The Obama press will use this to promote the notion that there are mythical North Korean “pragmatists” that we can deal with.

Speaking of Roxana Saberi, here is her post-release interview with NPR. Key quote:

Q: Roxana, you’ve lived in Iran for some years; how do you read your release on the suspended sentence? I mean, do you see this as some sort of power play between the hard-liners in Iran and reformists?

A: You know, it’s difficult for me to speculate because I don’t know, and as I said, it’s not a very transparent country. But I can guess, perhaps, that if the hard-liners had their way, I would still be in prison today, especially the hard-liners in the judiciary and in the Intelligence Ministry. But the people you could maybe call more pragmatists — they seemed to reach the conclusion that it was more costly to keep me, amid all this international pressure, instead of to release me.

What international pressure? And for that matter, what “pragmatists”? Mark Steyn recently notes that Hashemi Rafsanjani, a famous Iranian “moderate”, called Israel “the most hideous occurrence in history.” Rafsanjani promised to obliterate Israel with nuclear weapons. How precisely do Rafsanjani’s views differ from Ahmadinejad, the “hardliner” who beat him to become President of Iran? Perhaps Ahmadinejad is a moderate as well!

After Roxana Saberi was arrested I dug up and read everything I could that she had written. Her journalistic work concerning Iran made precious little mention of human rights. Instead she was obsessed (as in the post-release NPR interview) with the so-called conflict between Iranian hardliners and moderates (or “pragmatists”, as she now calls them). Most of Saberi’s work was dedicated to obscuring the fact that the “moderates” are just as crazy as the “hardliners”.

I really have a bad feeling about this, Tammy. This is the Obama press we are talking about here. Saberi was nothing but a shill for Iranian “pragmatists”, but I have no evidence that these two women did similar dirty work on behalf of North Korea. Still, I have to ask: if this is such an important issue for journalistic freedom why is the Obama press staying silent?

    Good question MWALIMU DAUDI.
