We ridicule politicians all the time, but there are now reports that a Congressman who won re-election in November may actually have mental problems. His staff is to be lauded for attempting to get him help, and now he’s lost most of them, but shouldn’t there be a hotline for staffers who think their candidate/boss may really be…disturbed? For their own sake and ours.

House Foreign Affairs Committee member Rep. David Wu, D-Ore

Report: Congressman urged to get psychiatric help

Senior staffers of U.S. Rep. David Wu were so alarmed over the Oregon Democrat’s erratic behavior just days before the November election that they demanded he enter a hospital for psychiatric treatment, a newspaper reported Friday evening.

The Oregonian, citing interviews with a number of anonymous staff members, reported on its website that Wu was increasingly unpredictable on the campaign trial and in private last fall, and had several angry and loud outbursts and sometimes said “kooky” things to staff and potential voters and donors. A similar report was carried on the Willamette Week newspaper’s website on Friday…”This is way beyond acceptable levels and the charade needs to end NOW,” wrote Lisa Grove, a senior and long-serving campaign pollster, in an e-mail to colleagues the day of the meeting. “No enabling by any potential enablers, he needs help.” […]

The newspaper said the 55-year-old Wu declined to be interviewed for its story. But his office provided a statement late Friday with the congressman saying he hasn’t always been at his best with staff and constituents and that he has sought professional medical care.

We are reminded time and time again that we’re usually casting our votes in ignorance of the actual human being we’re voting for, and all we’ve seen is a manufactured facade. And we sort of knew this all along, but we didn’t know what to do about it (except maybe scrutinize The National Perspirer, and then flip a coin to decide whether we believe their surprising claims).

does that also apply to ignorance about the dog we’re voting for?

“This past election, to make the meeting move faster, only the names and qualifications of the candidates were announced. Running for president, Ms. Beatha Lee was described as a relatively new resident, interested in neighborhood activities and the outdoors, and who had experience in Maine overseeing an estate of 26 acres….

Only weeks later did many discover that their new president was, in fact, a dog.

Ms. Beatha Lee is a shaggy, dirty-white wheaten terrier.”

All Democrat Congressmen are mentally ill and all the Democrat Senators too. So whats new?

  4. Artgal says:

You mean, there’s just one mental case???

I don’t think we can make this all about Democrats. How do you explain Boehner? Or how about this: Jeff Flake (R-AZ) being one of three house Republicans who rejected the spending cut bill this morning.

Apparently, Flake is part of a GOP caucas along w/ the other two traitors who submitted an amendment with an additional 22 billion to cut – which is fine. It was rejected for now. So what does he do? He decides he didn’t get his way and becomes a petualant child along with his two playmates. They sided with the Democrats on this! Instead of passing w/ the majority and then returning to their 22 billion cuts at some point, they played politics. It’s sort of like what McCain did in rejecting the 2001 tax cuts. They would rather continue the hardship on us than at least work toward making things better.

Speaking of which, Flake has announced he’s running for Kyl’s seat. He’s also McCain’s little boy. Flake is an Amnesty hack and very wishy-washy. He has the appropriate last name.

So yes, there is more than one mentally ill member of congress & the Senate. I will bet there’s one in the White House that trumps them all!

it’s the pacific northwest… ted bundy, green river killer, grunge, starbucks, courtney love….

must be something in the water that makes the crazy and makes the leeches that live off the life blood or the hard work of others.

as an aside of interest: statistically California has the most serial killings per capita of all the states but the pacific northwest despite it’s relative population density and general lack of heavily urbanized long standing areas is right up there. (new jersey is pretty bad too. maybe instead of huffing and puffing in DC Christie better get busy at home.)

    tammy, get out!

Thanks Tammy for the reminder to sign up for Palin, looks like a lot (including me) were putting it off for some reason we need to live in the moment which I seem to not do. Why? I need to figure that one out fast. So Urkel has dinner with the wiz kids and the next day they shut down Ubbertwitter? I just got back on a computer and then my “security” won’t let me get on twitter???? This is really frustrating, now I will spend hours trying to figure out how to get back on twitter without costing me more money and in the mean time I’m missing MY TWITTER!!!! Maybe Gods telling me something………I need a break from it………………..yup. I will get what I really need to know from here and quit wasting time for now all over the place 🙂 There I learned something in that moment, ha!

If this legislator’s behavior is truly a mental disorder, then may G-d forbid it be a tumor of some sort. I’ve seen brain tumors cause erratic and unexplained behavior in some people. It’s a scary, and sometimes dangerous, thing. If Mr. Wu cannot fully perform his responsibilities he needs to get well. If he won’t resign, then intervention is needed. Especially since he’s on the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Bad health, mental or otherwise, is a truly heavy burden not only for the affected individual, but for those who love them.

  8. RobbieK says:

Well, Liberalism IS a mental disorder, and let us not forget it is the Pacific Northwest where mental illness is the highest in the nation and an area that has the least amount of Churches.

Is he ‘mentally ill’ or is he just ‘Illinois’?
