Knowing the malignant narcissism of most of those on the Left demands drama, victimhood and perpetual outrage, I predicted union hack and failed Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Joanne Kloppenburg would demand a recount in that race, and she has done so.

For her, 200 votes was enough to confirm victory, but her loss by 7,316 votes is apparently questionable. How much will this typical liberal self-indulgent folly cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin? About a million bucks.

Wisconsin Supreme Court challenger files for recount

Charging that voting “anomalies” were “widespread,” the liberal challenger in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race filed papers Wednesday afternoon requesting a recount in the close election that has her trailing a conservative incumbent by less than .05 percent.

JoAnne Kloppenburg arrived at the state Government Accountability Board’s office in Madison barely an hour before the 5 p.m. local time deadline by which she had to ask for a recount or concede defeat. According to the vote count finalized by the state last week, she trails Justice David Prosser by 7,316 votes out of nearly 1.5 million cast in the April 5 election.

Okay, now let’s don’t be sore winners.

I don’t like the lady nor the way she jumped up and declared victory so quickly on a 200 vote lead in less than 24 hours. I wouldn’t want her to be on my state supreme court. She did not afford her opponent the same consideration that she is now asking for when the situation was reversed. And rather than simply exercise her right to a recount, she has to make a bunch of obnoxious accusations.

But look, the whole election turned on one mistake. If that mistake hadn’t been made then who knows if there would be talk of a recount (well, probably there would because the other side has already demonstrated that its objective was to cause as much delay and commotion as possible).

This candidate isn’t costing Wisconsin a million dollars. The state law makes this provision in its election process with well defined guidelines that are clearly met in this case. We cannot claim we are a nation of laws and then deny a person their due process under the law because we don’t like the person. If the people of Wisconsin don’t like it, they can change the law. The rest of us don’t really have a say in it, because it’s not our law.

Arguments that past recounts never made that much difference are blown away by the fact that in this election one human error actually did happen that turned the tables by a factor of 36x. So what never happens has already happened. An argument about what is typical doesn’t hold up for this election which is already an exceptional one. Unless someone wants to argue that this stuff never, never happens twice in the same election.

Which TAM given similar circumstances would concede without a recount? Both campaigns invested way more than the cost of the recount, and all the people who worked for the campaigns deserve to be confident of the results. Justice Prosser might have made a similar request if the error hadn’t been discovered; would he not owe it to his constituents to at least consider it? Only he would have done it with a lot more class and dignity.

I live in Wisconsin and have been paying close attention to this race for months. And I can tell you the recount WILL cost WI taxpayers. The law allows a candidate to request a recount at their expense if the margin of victory is 2% or less; but if less than 0.5%, the recount is paid for by the people of Wisconsin. Or, more specifically, by the 55% of us who actually pay taxes. Prosser’s margin of victory was 0.488%. As usual, Tammy is right on with her comment. The Left is genetically programmed by their narcissism to drag out the drama, and I’ll have to listen to the local news go on about this stupid recount for who knows how long until Prosser’s victory is confirmed. The Left – annoying even when they lose.

Can I send her a PayPal payment for a penny to help? I know on eBay transactions they take much more than that as their share….just sayin’

Yo, Kloppenburg: U want a recount? Okay, “Ein”, “Zwei”, “Drei”. Get over it. 🙂

Let’s be sure to keep tabs on this story…after the recount it’ll probably be more like 10,000 votes instead of 7,000.
