Florida Governor Rick Scott

Let’s hope so. Perhaps the groundswell of support for Gov. Walker in Wisconsin will encourage Scott to do the right thing, especially when it involves pressure by the federal government not to. Via the Miami Herald.

Gov. Rick Scott’s administration is positioning itself for a showdown with the U.S. Department of Justice for demanding that Florida cease searching for and purging noncitizen voters.

The DOJ gave Florida until Wednesday to respond to a letter, sent last week, that said the purge probably ran afoul of two federal voting laws.

Florida will respond, but it probably won’t quit its effort and will likely ask the DOJ to clarify its interpretation of the federal laws it cited.

“Our letter will address the issues raised by DOJ while emphasizing the importance of having accurate voter rolls,” said Chris Cate, spokesman for Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner, who’s in charge of the state’s elections division.

Cate would neither confirm nor deny what was in the state’s response, but he acknowledged that the state disagrees with the federal government and doesn’t plan to throw in the towel. “We know we’ve been acting responsibly,” he said.

If Scott’s administration stares down the DOJ, it will only heighten the partisan feud over the voter rolls in the nation’s largest swing state.

UPDATE:

Florida Gov. Scott says voter purge is legal, DOJ is wrong

Gov. Rick Scott’s election’s chief on Wednesday defiantly refused a federal demand to stop purging non-citizens from Florida’s voter rolls, intensifying an election-year confrontation with President Barack Obama’s administration as each side accuses the other of breaking federal law.

In a sharply worded letter, Scott’s administration claimed the Department of Justice doesn’t understand two federal voting laws at the heart of the dispute and was protecting potentially illegal voters more than legal ones.

Florida also accused another federal agency, the Department of Homeland Security, of violating the law by denying Florida access to a federal citizenship database.

This is why winning the recall battle of Wisconsin was so important, backbones get a little straighter.

    Go Gators!

I have been voting in America for over 40 years. It was my impression one had to be a US citizen pay Federal Income taxes, and to vote in General Elections. Like the US Constitution, our voting laws seem to be a huge inconvenience to this Administration. I pray FL stands it’s ground here, as well as; the rest of the USA. This is all pandering by this president to get votes because he knows we taxpayers do not want him as our President anymore.

You don’t have to pay Federal taxes in order to vote. If that were the case, then nearly half the citizens would be ineligible, as currently 47% of American workers pay no Federal income tax.

Since Speaker Boehner seems reluctant to take on Eric Holder (what a weasel), we may have to wait until we get another A.G. before we can heal the damage done by him to our Constitution. Hopefully, the new crop of legislators won’t drop the investigation of Eric Holder just because he is forced out of office. It is my firm belief that he is a criminal, he is corrupt to the core, and he needs to serve jail time for his crimes.

Yeah, Well its ERIC HOLDER, who is 2nd on my list of ” Get The F OUT of our government”..
HOLDER is totally corrupt, like we are too stupid to see he’s trying to allow voter fraud.
In a Republican administration this HOLDER would be in Federal Prison.
Dept of Justice?………..yep , as long is it serves Obama’s agenda.
    Fire ’em BOTH.
C’MON FLORIDA, YOUVE BROKEN NO LAWS!!.

What’s scary about Holder and DOJ is their boldness. Not only are they criminal -at minimum obstructors of justice- Holder basically STATES it — he DARES anyone to question him. To do so is to declare yourself a racist of the worst order. He and Obama must HOWL in their meetings, doubled over laughing. They mock us…spit on us… and laugh in our faces…

Is there any just recourse for Holder after O loses election? Treason?

We love your guts, Governor Scott! Thank you!

I turned 18 just in time for Bill Clinton’s re-election. I voted for Bob Dole, and he carried my state. It nauseates me that a civic duty that I hold so dear is so badly damaged by liberal interpretation of the law in the name of political convenience.
