O.J. Simpson

An off-duty cop was given the knife…and he kept it for years?

Someone needs to be fired.

Note from Tammy: OMG. If this is the murder weapon, after all we went through…

Via NY Post:

A construction worker found a blood-stained knife buried on OJ Simpson’s property “years ago” — and gave it to an off-duty cop who kept it in his home before finally turning it over to police, a report says.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the blade is a folding buck knife, which is now being tested for hair and fingerprints after being handed over to the L.A.P.D.’s Robbery Homicide Division in January….

The construction worker who found the knife told police he stumbled upon it while Simpson’s home was being demolished, but he couldn’t remember the exact date, sources told TMZ.

After finding the blade, he took it to an LAPD officer standing across the street, according to TMZ.

But the cop was off-duty — and instead of turning the knife over to his higher-ups, sources said he kept it for years….

Despite all this, OJ likely cannot be prosecuted again because of double-jeopardy laws, which prohibit someone from being charged with the same crime twice.

More details from the Los Angeles Times:

In another twist in the long-running O.J. Simpson saga, Los Angeles police are investigating and testing a knife that was recovered on property once owned by the former football star.

The elite Robbery Homicide Division is investigating a buck knife now in possession of the department.

The knife was apparently turned over to a police officer a number of years ago by a person working construction at the property, a law enforcement source said.

Detectives more recently learned of the knife’s existence and are now investigating where it came from, according to the source, who cautioned that the investigation is still in its early stages.

Finding the knife that killed Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman had been an obsession of police and others in the wake of the 1994 murders.

Authorities searched for the murder weapon for months after the slayings, and there have been many leads that went cold.

A 15-inch knife with a retractable blade that Simpson purchased at Ross Cutlery in downtown Los Angeles briefly tantalized prosecutors in his criminal trial. They thought it might be the murder weapon, and even asked a coroner to compare that type of blade with the slicing, stabbing wounds in the killings. The fact that no one could locate the knife only added to the intrigue.

The whole oj trial has been a “Charlie Foxtrot”, why should anything change now.

I dunno, sounds “too good to be true”.

Anyway, even if this were provably the murder weapon and they’d presented it at the trial, Johnny Cockroach would have just said it was planted, and the jury still would have acquitted.
