by Shifra on March 26, 2014Low information voter alert! Yes, they could not name one single Senator (except for one young woman, who tentatively guessed, “Rand Paul?” Via CNS News: College Students Fail to Name a Single U.S. Senator Tuition at American University is over twenty thousand dollars a year. Money well spent, parents! (not). Maybe they are all majoring in Third World Basket Weaving Theory. But one thing is pretty much certain: I bet they all voted for the cool Preezy of the Steezy.

It can be someone on this list, or not. Let us know in Comments! Here are the final ten contenders for TIME’s Person of the Year (listed alphabetically): Bashar Assad, President of Syria Jeff Bezos, Amazon Founder Ted Cruz, Texas Senator Miley Cyrus, Singer...

Yates and the Insanity Defense
by Maynard on May 8, 2013I'm bumping this old post that was focused on the Andrea Yates case because it sheds some light on the legal (as opposed to the cultural) definition of insanity. As you probably heard, the Colorado shooter wants to plead not guilty by reason of insanity. So what does insanity mean in a court of law?

The Senate Censors: Feinstein Ends Her Inquisition of Kathryn Bigelow and “Zero Dark Thirty”
by Shifra on March 4, 2013**A Post by Shifra** Well, now that Kathryn Bigelow has been “punished” by the Hollywood Liberals – no Oscar nominations for her or for her film Zero Dark Thirty, and only one award (shared) for “sound editing,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein has called off the Inquisition, er, the investigation into the film, one day after the Academy Awards. Via WSJ. If Hollywood ever makes a film about the “Zero Dark Thirty” affair, it may stretch the credulity of audiences with even the lowest expectations of Washington. As no one should forget, Senators Dianne Feinstein, Carl Levin and John McCain wrote letters to Sony Pictures and the CIA charging that “Zero Dark Thirty” was a “grossly inaccurate and misleading” portrayal of the...

Proof Our Culture Is Worth Fighting For==> Shirley Bassey and Adele
by Tammy on February 25, 2013Last night’s Oscar program was horrific, we know, yet there were two events which are good reminders about why our culture is worth fighting for: the performances of Dame Shirley Bassey and Adele. In an evening overflowing with rank sexism, and example after example of the decline of culture, here we have the 76 year-old Bassey, completely commanding the stage, and 25-year-old Adele, performing brilliantly the song which garnered her the Oscar. It might be a good idea for poseurs like “Beyonce” to watch these two women to see how true artists don’t need to lip-sync. Brava ladies, and thanks for reminding us what artistry is all about. Forgive the video quality here, both were apparently taken from televisions. For...

Monopoly: The Iron Is Out And the Cat Is In
by Tammy on February 6, 2013Snoopy Bruce approves. Syd? Meh. Via CNN. The company invited Monopoly fans to vote on which of its icons would be dropped in favor of a new one “that’s more representative of today’s Monopoly players,” Eric Nyman, senior vice president for Hasbro Gaming, said at the start of the campaign last month. The boot, iron and wheelbarrow drew the least support from fans, while the Scottie dog received the most support. The new choice received mixed reviews from fans. “What? The cat? I demand a recount!!!,” Facebook user Dillon Lane posted on the Monopoly page. But Facebook user Eve Conolly is happy.”Yay, down with ironing and hooray for kittens!,” she posted on the Monopoly page. More than 10 million people...

Krauthammer On School Shooting: “This Is The Problem Of Evil And It’s Been Struggled With Forever”
by Tammy on December 16, 2012Excellent, but brief, conservation from from Bret’s Special Report. I found Krauthammer’s comments the most cogent, and he also also comments about what to say to your kids. while disagreeing the most with Kirsten Powers. Overall, a comprehensive discussion on the issue (focusing on the psychology of the issue) with good points. This whole conservation, however, about our “culture of violence” I find shallow. This is the world’s condemnation of us, and yet nothing is said, and even we pander to, and actual culture of violence in the Islamist world, where school girls are targeted on a daily basis. Yet, there is no general condemnation of that, not does the misogyny and child abuse of the Arab world ever make...

Our Celebrity Pundits Weigh In
by Shifra on December 12, 2012**A Post by Shifra** Once upon a time, men were men, and women were women, and… oh wait, I’m not sure how this goes. Whatever. But I do know that once upon a time, politicians were politicians, and movie stars lived mostly in Hollywood, where they made movies and lived glamorous lives. Now, we have a Preezy of the Steezy who sees himself as the Celebrity-in-Chief, while celebs consider themselves pundits, and weigh in on Important Issues. This, from the Weekly Standard: At a candlelight vigil for Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez in Bolivia, actor Sean Penn offered great praise for the sick strongman: “He is one of the most important forces we’ve had on this planet. And I will wish...

How About Turning Detroit Into A Zombie Park?
by Pat_S on July 14, 2012That’s the idea of Marc Siwak, a Michigan resident. He envisions hiring actors to play brain-eating zombies attacking paying customers. It isn’t an original theme. The Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse is scheduled to open September 28th. It’s just much more pathetic in Detroit. It is pretty close to what actually happened to that city. Idea for Detroit zombie theme park catches some attention He said the park is inspired by the Heidelberg Project and would create jobs, and even in maintaining a ruined look, buildings would be fixed up and made safe. The Heidelberg Project is another example of what the living dead are doing in Detroit. HDNet – “Art From The Ashes: Detroit’s Heidelberg Project” from Tilapia Film on Vimeo....

It’s Come To This: Time Magazine’s Soft Porn Cover Reveals a Desperate, Failing, Magazine (NSFW)
by Tammy on May 10, 2012Well, they’re getting a lot of attention for this, but John Edwards is also getting a lot of press these days so I guess why people are talking about you really does matter. Supposedly for a story about “Extreme Parenting,” this will be in the magazine stands at your checkout counter in the grocery story. Will some mistake this for incest? Is this not child pornography because the cover says it’s a woman and her child? I suppose the silver lining is all the pervs and child molesters in your neighborhood will all be huddled around the same spot in your supermarket this week. I think it’s safe to say you all know I lead what some would call an...

Skirting Around Differences In Olympic Boxing
by Pat_S on November 23, 2011Women’s boxing will be part of the 2012 Olympics, an Olympic first. The Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) would like the ladies to wear skirts in the ring. The AIBA thinks wearing skirts will help distinguish female boxers from male boxers. Female boxers fight skirts ahead of Olympics AIBA has suggested that wearing skirts would help women stand out from the men. Female boxers from Poland and Romania donned skirts at last month’s European Championships in the Netherlands. I know there have been gender scandals in Olympic games but this is ridiculous. Has the AIBA made any recommendations about wearing tops? With or without would be another way to help the audience distinguish between male and female boxers.
