A post by Maynard.

At 13:50 yesterday (May 27), Haaretz (a left-leaning Israeli newspaper) reported, “G8 leaders expected to back Obama on 1967 borders”.

Group of Eight leaders will give “strong support” to U.S. President Barack Obama’s call for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal to be based on the 1967 borders, the French Press Agency AFP reported on Friday.

An hour later, however, a different report appeared. It seems things didn’t go down as expected. And for once, the surprise was a good one: “G8 leaders omit mention of 1967 borders in Middle East statement”.

Group of Eight leaders had to soften a statement urging Israel and the Palestinians to return to negotiations because Canada objected to a specific mention of 1967 borders, diplomats said on Friday.

As we know, no good deed goes unpunished.

Canada’s strong backing for Israel was cited by diplomats last year as one reason why Canada failed to win a rotating two-year seat on the United Nations Security Council.

But Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper was not deterred. He has maintained a clear moral perspective in a world that’s all too often cowardly and equivocating in the face of nastiness.

Harper has made is position on Israel very clear, saying last year: “When Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand.”

Thanks Canada.

We’ve even got a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup Finals this year! Although Vancouver is to Canada what San Francisco is to America…

We Canadian conservatives are very proud of our principled government. Although they still have lots of work to do on reversing 40 years of socialism.

      Hey flagg:

Please tell your fellow conservatives up there that (if they care) LOTS of Americans really appreciate that Canada took a stand for Israel when our own government wouldn’t.

Good on Maynard for this post and God Bless Canada.

I am at a loss for words regarding how so many in the world seem to be siding with the terrorist and this President. Israel is the only State standing in the way of total muslim brotherhood take over of first the middle east, then europe. Will they be coming to US asking for our resources, solders, and money again when these arab thugs start taking over thier homeland. The G8 summit, what a big waste of time and tax money for us to even participate. Perhaps these countries who support our President have forgotten how badly WWI and WWII tore the Europian landscape up. Do they think these arab thugs are not intending to do this to them again?

Once the US gets a conservative republican in 2012 we will once again support our allies….Israel. Again Obama is against the will of the American people.

I kinda wonder what Canadians think about the one-Palestinian-state-with-contiguous-borders principle. If that sort of thing is good enough for the Palis, isn’t it good enough for everyone? Including the US? Think British Columbia would go for a land-for-land swap to connect Washington State and Alaska?
