While I want everyone to be in the field, in this particular instance, for the sake of their family, this was the right decision. It’s good his wife prevailed.
Daniels won’t run in 2012
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels told supporters in a midnight email early Sunday that he is opting against a 2012 presidential run, a decision that will again roil the GOP field and leave many party establishment figures looking for alternatives.
In the end, he said, he couldn’t convince his family to get on board. His wife, Cheri, was known to have concerns about a campaign.
The email went out from Indiana GOP chief Eric Holcombe, a key Daniels adviser, soon after midnight, with the word “Urgent” in the subject line.
“The following is from Governor Mitch Daniels….” the email began.
“I hope this reaches you before the public news does,” Daniels wrote. “If so, please respect my confidence for the short time until I can make it known to all.
“The counsel and encouragement I received from important citizens like you caused me to think very deeply about becoming a national candidate. In the end, I was able to resolve every competing consideration but one, but that, the interests and wishes of my family, is the most important consideration of all. If I have disappointed you, I will always be sorry,” he added. “If you feel that this was a non-courageous or unpatriotic decision, I understand and will not attempt to persuade you otherwise. I only hope that you will accept my sincerity in the judgment I reached.”
“Many thanks for your help and input during this period of reflection. Please stay in touch if you see ways in which an obscure Midwestern governor might make a constructive contribution to the rebuilding of our economy and our Republic.”
“I hope this reaches you before the public news does,” Daniels wrote. “If so, please respect my confidence for the short time until I can make it known to all.”
Hmmmm, think Eric might be a little ticked off? Just sayin’
The attacks on Gov. Palin have back-fired in a huge way. Daniels’ family saw the attacks on the Palin’s and knew they would face the same scrutiny. As a result, a major obstacle to her becoming the GOP nominee has withdrawn.
Perhaps the world did come to and end yesterday – for the GOP establishment.
…women and minorities hardest hit.
another loser bites the dust…muhahahaha
While we’re on the subject of ‘snowballs in h***’:
Let’s make a political limerick visit to Ron Paul.
There once was a Crackpot from Texas
who couldn’t make sense of a Lexus
he couldn’t shift gears
he bored us to tears
now he needs to go back to his Nexus!*
*The Nexus is an extradimensional realm in which one’s thoughts and desires shape reality. Inside the Nexus, time has no meaning, allowing one to visit any time and any place that one can imagine.
Please pass the Fruit-Loops, thanks.

I get the feeling that internal polls of Republican primary voters are telling all the campaigns: we may like your guy in general, but we’re voting for Sarah. That’s why Huck dropped. That’s why Daniels stayed out. That’s why Newt tried to carve out an anti-Sarah (via Ryan attack) position. Game on for Sarah means game over for the rest.
Anyone want to take a crack at captioning the photograph at the top of the story?
(If that’s not an editorial[Tammy?]statement, what is?…)
The wife was going to leave him again if he ran. Smart man.
Also a door was slammed in his face the other day and he got 16 stiches on the forehead. Maybe it knocked some sense into him to stay out of this.
