UPDATE: Here’s the official Cheney for Wyoming website.

Her video announcement:

This is obviously great news. I’m thrilled. Here are the early details.

Via The Hill.

Liz Cheney will mount a primary challenge against Republican Sen. Mike Enzi in Wyoming, she told the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, could give the veteran senator a tough race.

She is well-known to national Republican donors, especially those focused on international issues, and along with conservative commentator Bill Kristol, runs a national security organization called Keep America Safe.

Cheney is also a Fox News commentator and a former State Department official.

Enzi released his own statement Tuesday afternoon saying he plans to run for reelection, and fired a shot across the bow of his new primary foe.
“I intend to run for reelection for Wyoming’s Senate seat in 2014,” Enzi said in the statement.

“When I announce formally, I will let everyone know that date in the future. In the meantime, I will do the job I was already elected to do. My trips to Wyoming almost weekly, the public listening sessions, the groups I meet with and speak to, working behind the scenes — this is what I have been doing since I was elected and this is what needs to be done.”

I like the idea of Sen. Liz Cheney, though I’m not from WY (I’m from CO). I’ve heard her over the years, and like her stands. It would be nice, though, to hear why she thinks WY is not receiving adequate representation now from Enzi. Does she have specific complaints about that, or is she just ready to run for higher office and doesn’t want to wait for Enzi to retire or be defeated by the Democrats? All I heard her talk about in this video is what Obama is doing to the country, and I agree with her on those points, but I wonder what electing her would do that Enzi is not already doing. These are all just the wanderings of some no-account (me), who will not be voting in WY’s election, but these were the questions that came to mind.

God Bless you Liz, finally someone who has a heart and a love for our country and wants to take action and not just throw words at us to get elected. She is sincere and I believe she will make a difference.

I like Liz (could that be a bumper sticker?) and love her fighting spirit for conservatism. She’s no Ted Cruz, but I’m biased being in Texas, and she’ll certainly make a better Senator than Rand Paul.

Here’s what I don’t like about Liz, and what Tammy has not discussed to my knowledge: Liz is probably cut from the same sort of interventionist cloth as her father and her father’s former boss. I say “probably” because though it’s likely, none of us know for sure exactly what her foreign policy will be. Where does she stand on Syria? I like what Liz has said about Benghazi, but I’ve also agreed with many things Lindsey Graham has said about Benghazi and that guy should be primaried just like Liz is primarying Enzi. Was she calling for intervention in Libya like McCain and Graham?

To say that the Cheney’s, including Liz, are not part of the establishment is a bit thoughtless. As I said, I like Liz; however I do caution Tammy and others on getting to romantic about her as a politician. Everything Liz said in that video I’ve heard before. I don’t really care about her campaign videos. What I do care about is what she’s going to do as Senator. If she wins, good for her. Will it be good for us? We’ll see.

“She said that if I ran she wasn’t going to run, but obviously that wasn’t correct,” Enzi said, speaking to reporters as he left the Senate floor. “I thought we were friends.” In actuality Enzi definitely wasn’t correct–Liz corrected him on that in her news conference. And adding the “I thought we were friends” line sounds silly and wimpy to me.

Cheney has more brains, backbone and balls than most of the Senate combined. It’s not just what she will do for Wyoming, but the influence she would also have on the those around her in the Senate.

Enzi hasn’t really rocked the Republican boat much. That’s no reason for Liz Cheney to wait, and I can’t wait. 🙂

And…Liz Cheney WOULD have a Grandma that was a Deputy Sheriff.

    Love that.
