Thanks for posting, Patricia. Once again, Tammy excels at shutting down Alan’s distractions and getting to the heart of the issue (and she looks fabulous, too).

If what the writer, fact checker and editors admittedly failed to do is not cause for immediate termination then what is for a national magazine?

The complete, total and utter lack of integrity and ethics of Jann Wenner is on full display.

Rolling Stone magazine was founded in 1967 and its major political writer in the 1970s was Hunter S. Thompson, the Gonzo Journalist, who wrote for RS until he killed himself in 2005 at age 67. I never read much of his work or RS, but now I wish that he were here. I’d love to read his take on Democrats today, Obama, and what RS has become.

Wikip: “… [Thompson] became well known for his inveterate hatred of Richard Nixon, whom he claimed represented “that dark, venal, and incurably violent side of the American character” and whom he characterized in Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72….He was also known for his lifelong use of alcohol and illegal drugs, his love of firearms, and his iconoclastic contempt for authoritarianism….”

Thinking a little more about it, part of the problem here is likely that RS is trying to continue Gonzo journalism, but nowadays doesn’t have regard for putting people in jail. Thompson wrote keeping people out of jail.

Wikip: “…Gonzo journalism involves an approach to accuracy through the reporting of personal experiences and emotions, as compared to traditional journalism, which favors a detached style and relies on facts or quotations that can be verified by third parties. Gonzo journalism disregards the strictly edited product favored by newspaper media and strives for a more personal approach…”

The accuser, no doubt a modern “feminist”, made false allegations of rape, possibly in part to make the reporter happy, since that’s the story the reporter was seeking. That will do wonders for women with genuine accounts of rape, won’t it. Any contemporary feminist worth her salt must have a rape story, right? so make one up, the more sensational the better. Lena Dunham, anyone? The reporter wanted to believe, loved the story, checked nothing because she was presenting a “narrative”, she had a social agenda to pursue, not a fact based news article to research and write. Swallowed the story whole, hook, line, and sinker, because those eeevil white privileged, patriarchal frat boys must be exposed and destroyed. Did they learn nothing at all from the rush to judgement in the Duke LaCrosse case? I hope the members of the fraternity sue the reporter, the Stone, the editorial staff, everyone involved in this slander at any level. I hope every single member of that fraternity sues individually and collectively.
