Apparently causing a big boom, literally, must be the new Islamic way of saying “Happy Birthday!” At least this is what we are to believe if we take Mohamed and Megahed seriously about why they had pipe bombs in their trunk. As they sped through town. Near the naval weapons station and brig. Yeah, I do that all the time.

Felony charges: Prosecutor says Egyptian students had pipe bombs in car

Two Florida students accused of having pipe bombs in the trunk of their car when they were pulled over in Goose Creek are “confused and scared,” their attorney said Monday.

Yousseff Megahed, 21, and Ahmed Mohamed, 26, both Egyptian citizens, were calm and polite in Berkeley County bond court. They were charged Monday with carrying explosive devices, which is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison…An FBI spokesman said the two are not suspected of being part of a terrorist plot. [Of course not. That would be just silly–ed.]

The leader of a Muslim advocacy group who has been talking with Megahed’s family said the two were heading to North Carolina to celebrate Mohamed’s birthday, which was Sunday…The contents of the trunk might have been part of the celebration, he said.

Excellent research from Pat S. in Comments, worthy of posting here:

Just a few things I found interesting while reading up on this.

About homemade fireworks:
Under no circumstances should you ever use PVC
Under no circumstances should you ever use PVC. When an artillery shell explodes in PVC pipe, the PVC splinters like glass or steel and can be very dangerous to anyone nearby. HDPE, on the other hand, shreds and tears, but does not create the dangerous shrapnel of PVC.

About USF at Tampa:
USF previously was the subject of negative publicity over the saga of Sami Al-Arian, a Kuwait-born professor who pleaded guilty last year to aiding Palestinian terrorists operating in Israel and the West Bank.

About plans of other Muslims involving naval facilities:
Muslim Doctors Targeted Mayport In American Jihad
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Documents seized from group of 45 Muslim doctors threatening to use car bombings and other attacks in the United States said their first target would be “the naval base that gives shelter to the ship Kenney,” The Telegraph of London reported Thursday.

I guess we are doing it all wrong then, huh Tammy? My goodness. Let’s see. My husband’s birthday is coming up, I will need some bomb making material, rocket launcher and a IED; that should do it right? Only the best for my sweetie!
Was that intolerant of me? Well I am now considering myself a Radical American, care to join me?

Kudos to PAT_S for great intelligence gathering on this story. A true “Reader” in the in the intelligence idiom.

I almost choked laughing when I read your post yesterday – there is an interesting news video now available courtesy of Dan Riehl that has the next door neighbor / witness confirming she told the FBI that these misadventurous folk were also accustomed to frequently receiving “OXYGEN TANKS” (or presumably cannisters of some kind of gas). The kind frequently delivered on trucks with red labels on the back warning of their propensity TO EXPLODE! 😉

FYI – in 08/12/07 Tampa Tribune confirmation a Saturday search conducted by the FBI in Temple Terrace, Florida, was tied to the case involving two men arrested in South Carolina for pipe bombs.
