Gas too expensive? Be happy! Less work, less money, less traffic, and bonus–you’ll lose weight!

Barry noted back in June how he likes high oil prices, he just thinks it happened too fast. Now Time Magazine chimes reinforcing his message (which they will do throughout this campaign) that having no money, no freedom and no efficient way to get around is a Really Good Thing. It’s what I term the liberal agenda goal of “Failure Success.” Since liberals believe American activity and consumption are the root of all evil, high gas prices are a terrific, fast way to get us to stop producing. And spending. And caring. And working. And enjoying life. In other words, we’ll all be liberals.

10 Things You Can Like About $4 Gas

The world had long assumed that Americans were just unrepentant energy pigs…Now here we are. Gas prices are near $4 per gal., as no one needs to tell you, and they are likely to stay that way. Most of us still don’t have the alternatives we need to adapt with grace, which means that many will adapt just by suffering. We will run out of gas on I-80, ease our minivans over to the shoulder and tell the kids everything is O.K. We’ll fall behind on Visa bills to pay for gas so we can buy food made ever more expensive by energy costs.

But it’s also true that Americans are finding options where there seemed to be none. They’re ready to change — and waiting for their infrastructure to catch up. They are driving to commuter-rail lines only to find there are no parking spots left. They are running fewer errands and dumping their SUVs. Public-transit use is at a 50-year high. Gas purchases are down 2% to 3%. And all those changes bring secondary, hard-earned benefits.

“You suddenly are reminded how the economy works,” says Eric Roston, author of a new book about energy, The Carbon Age. “Nobody wants high prices for oil. But there’s also no faster mechanism to change behavior.” The suffering will go on. But the story, like any good tragedy, is not without redemption.

Ah yes, forced by artificially high oil prices because liberals whined their way into demonizing drilling and refining American oil, and casting nuclear power as the devil, and now we have the Big Pay Off: Wasting more time, accomplishing less, and growing more reliant on government. Yes indeed, what a good tragedy they have in mind, as all liberals usually do.

Oh yeah, two of their Really Great Things About Getting Robbed At the Tank include “Four Day Work Weeks,” “Less Obesity,” and “Less Traffic.” In other words, we’ll be just like France. But hey, why stop at France? If we really screw up and destroy the country and our ability to produce and live the lives we want to live, why not go for the Jackpot of Failure and look at the Failure Success of, oh, Zimbabwe and Sudan! They have Zero Work Day Work Weeks, people are really thin (that starvation thing) and there’s no traffic at all (except for the various militias that come around the kill you). Yeah, now that’s a level of Failure Success weshould strive for!

One great thing about all of this talk about alternative energy sources is that it has given us the perfect definition of hypocrisy: The idiot heir of a corrupt political family works for an “environmentalist” group, but still opposes wind power when it might be located within 100 miles of his exclusive home island.

    Hey, Tammy

You don’t happen to have that recipe for dirt biscuits, do you? I looked on the Food Network but couldn’t find it there. Go figure! I figure I should start practicing now so I can get my technique down … if you don’t do it just right they tend to end up like hockey pucks.

Only a person with an excessive amount of disposable income could think that high gas prices are a good thing. Oh yes, let’s not forget, those are the same folks who don’t mind paying more taxes.

  4. Shawmut says:

Oh! The frustration! Ten years, at best, to get a yield from domestic oil.
That’s like citing the obvioius as Holy Writ.
So, how long have we been talking about his?
If we began in 2001; such as September 12th, we’d have at least 7 years into the project. (Probably even better, as innovation develops with hands on.)
If Reid thinks oil makes people sick, his bedside manner could use a remedy. His favorite ungent is snake oil.

Oil from first drill to Gas Pump is probably about a YEAR … the Other NINE is fighting the EPA, the Sierra Club, etc etc!

It’s funny how, when we’re asked to cut back in a Republican context, we’re being squeezed by sinister forces of oppression, but when we’re asked to cut back in a Democrat context, we’re making glorious sacrifices for the benefit of our fellow Man.

Tammy! Recently, the government of Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz in the event of an Israeli airstrike on their country. As I recall, back in 1973,the Saudis also threatened us with an oil embargo for supporting Israel in the Yom Kippur War. The Kingdom not only threatened, they actually carried through with their threat and instantly,America saw a gas shortage and long lines of cars at service staions. History seems to be repeating itself. When are we ever going to learn!? I’m all for a clean evironment and solar panels and wind farms etc. but how do you power a Navy destroyer or an Army Humvee on solar energy? Yes,of course, anything is possible for American ingenuity and creativity but all such technological advancements are far in the future. What do we do about a hostile Iran or Saudi Arabia,or Venezuela…NOW? That’s why I believe we must drill at home. It would at least assure us a consistent supply of oil regardless of what happens in the middle east. And while this domestic drilling is going on,we could start work on alternative energy sources as well as conservation and other environmentaly friendly power production. Lets do it all,not just drilling, but drilling MUST be a part of America’s near-term energy plan.If Iran carries through with it’s threat to shut the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices will skyrocket and we’ll think that $4 gas is a bargain.

If we hit “roving millitia” depth, things will return to normal pretty quickly.

Won’t be any leftists around to screw things up if things get so desperate We, The People have to resolve the crisis with arms.

Got a feeling they’ll be the first to go…
