Reflections on Chanukah 2013
by Shifra on December 2, 2013via @ExurbanKevin; and h/t to Tammy for retweeting the pic One morning a few weeks ago, while having our coffee and checking the morning headlines, my husband suddenly put down his newspaper. “He’s a tyrant. He’s dismantling the whole country. This is like a bad dream that keeps getting worse.” I nodded. We were having many such conversations lately. Last Wednesday, at sundown, the holiday of Chanukah began. An eight-day holiday commemorating a miracle that had taken place in 2nd century BCE Judea, which at that time had been ruled by the Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks) under Antiochus Epiphanes. When the Jews were forbidden to practice their religious way of life, a rebellion broke out, and after several years of battles, the...

Permit Denied to 2 Million Bikers to DC on 9/11; Riders Roll Anyway!
by Tammy on September 9, 2013Image via @sandyaschneider at Twitter As I posted a couple weeks ago on Tammy Blog, Islamists are planning a so-called ‘Million Muslim March’ in DC on the anniversary of 9/11 which is now fast approaching. In response, bikers called for a 2 Million Biker ride through the capitol. The response has been amazing, but last week we found that while the Islamists got a permit the biker were refused by DC (where are we Pakistan?). The good news is the riders are rolling anyway! God bless all of you on the road and planning to be there to show DC, the nation and the world who they’re truly answerable to: the American people, not Islamist special interest groups. We are...

Great Piece By Liz Cheney: “Those Who Counsel That the GOP Should Move Left Are Wrongheaded or Democrats, Or Both”
by Tammy on March 29, 2013A terrific op/ed in the Wall Street Journal from Liz Cheney. Every day I hope she’s considering public office, and with a piece like this, I become more inspired. A snippet is below but do read the whole thing. Liz Cheney: Republicans, Get Over the 2012 Loss—and Start Fighting Back …Al Qaeda is resurgent across the Middle East. President Obama stood by and did nothing when its affiliates in Libya killed the U.S. ambassador and three other brave Americans in Benghazi on the anniversary of 9/11. Then he and his administration misled the American people about the attack. Today, more than six months later, no one has been held to account. The clear message of this episode to America’s enemies...

Shifra’s Reflections on the Election
by Shifra on November 25, 2012**A Post by Shifra** TAM VitadMD wrote the following on FaceBook, and she posted it on the TAMWire. She has graciously consented to allow me to reprint it here. My response follows: A long 10 days of darkness and cold due to destructive wind, rain, and snow produced a certain kind of anxiety and frustration all too familiar living in Westchester, NY. As depressing as that was, it paled in comparison to an even more foreboding darkness of spirit after the disaster of Election Day 2012. That night, in an emotionally crushing but not entirely surprising manner, our electoral resistance suffered a severe setback – resistance to the occupation (“Occupy Wall Street” has officially become “Occupy America”), to the “revengers”...

Shifra’s “How I Became a Conservative” – Part Deux
by Shifra on October 22, 2012**A Post by Shifra** After my last post, the comments from the TAMS, as well as tweets and DM’s, were much appreciated. And very gratifying. But one tweet in particular caught my attention: “Loved ur post on tammybruce.com. Stay fierce.” I was very flattered. Then I started feeling guilty. Because I had omitted a story. I had figured the story was too long. It would detract from the overall theme of my post. And, I had to admit: the story did not make me sound very “fierce.” But now, I’ve brought it up, so here goes: In June 2011, NY Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned, following his unspeakably absurd twitter escapade. A special run-off election was announced for September, for NY...

How I Became a Conservative
by Shifra on September 19, 2012**A Post by Shifra** There are some very compelling stories of people on the Left who “saw the light” and became Conservatives. Tammy’s story immediately comes to mind (See “The New Thought Police,” “The Death of Right and Wrong,” and “The New American Revolution.”) David Horowitz, David Mamet, the late and sorely missed Andrew Breitbart — great stories, all. Mine? Not so much. As a matter of fact, I hesitate to tell you anything about this. Maybe you think I had some amazing epiphany, some phenomenal life-changing experience that propelled me to become a Conservative. Why shatter your illusions? Well, because the election is in less than fifty days, and I want to make a point. Although I was born...

Happy Independence Day Israel!
by Tammy on April 25, 2012God bless Israel and the Jewish people everywhere! Israel kicks off 64th Independence Day celebrations An annual torch-lighting ceremony was being held at Israel’s capital on Wednesday, marking the end of Remembrance Day. The end of the ceremony will touch off Independence Day celebrations across the country. The official theme of this year’s Independence Day ceremony at Mount Herzl was “Water – The Source of Life.” Participants, chosen by a public committee within the Israel National Ceremony Center, were lighting 12 torches, representing the 12 tribes of the Jewish nation. Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, the opening speaker at the ceremony, said that the state of Israel should not be taken for granted. “I was nine years old when the State...

Philadelphia Must Pay Nearly $900,000 After a Failed Effort To Evict the Boy Scouts
by Tammy on March 22, 2012Good. The Big Elbow of Karma strikes again. As we all know, the BSA is a terrific organization and develops some of the nation’s most remarkable leaders in virtually every field. The attacks on the organization by the Gay Gestapos are simply another attempt to strike at the values and structure that make our nation great. We should all be glad Philadelphia is feeling the sting of their failed effort to appease the left at the expense of the Scouts. Philly owes $877,000 for Boy Scouts’ eviction case The city must pay nearly $900,000 after a failed effort to evict the Boy Scouts of America because of the group’s ban on gays, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. The post-trial ruling...
